How Palm Jaggery is made

Pots are tied to Palm trees, Palm juice gets collected the pots. The collected Palm juice or padani(Tamil) from the palm trees is filtered and boiled in a huge vessel for more than 2 hours. The syrup gets thicker. The syrup is then poured into coconut shells, bowls to set. Once it is cooled n set, we have palm jaggery.

  • Sweetness is higher, Smaller portion of Palm Jaggery is enough compared to white sugar. 5gm Palm Jaggery = 25gm White sugar.
  • Adults can consume 50gms to 100gms a day.
  • Expectant mothers must not consume more than 25gms for first 3months, after that as per taste requirement.
  • Kids below 10 years, can consume upto 50gms a day.

    Recently got palm jaggery in santhe , never used it before. But now I feel why did I not use it before. whenever I want to eat sweet , I just eat a small piece of it and there you are with full satisfaction same as eating sweet. I add to my tea, it tastes too good. I add to my daughter’s milk and she gets her dose of iron for the day. Thanks for the blog.

    Totally Jaggery is good for health compare to White sugar but few people add chemicals as well so need to make sure and should be Organic.
    Palm Jaggery is very good and it has good nutritional Value and even am planning to bye pl let me know where i can get this jaggery
